Sealed 'BUNC' (Brilliant Uncirculated) and Proof coins & sets

BUNC coins, also known as Brilliant Uncirculated coins, have never been circulated as currency and retain their original luster. They are often sold in sealed packs to avoid any tarnish and retain their sharp details and a mirror-like finish.

  • Polished Dies: The dies used to strike BUNC coins are meticulously polished and finished by hand.
  • Machine-Feeding and Double Striking: BUNC blanks are machine-fed and struck twice, ensuring consistent quality.
  • Higher Standard: BUNC coins are of a higher standard than circulating and bullion coins.
  • Rarity: BUNC coins are typically produced in limited quantities, making them more valuable due to their scarcity.
  • Entry-Level Collectibles: BUNC coins are popular as entry-level collectibles for both beginners and seasoned collectors.
  • Affordability: They are affordable compared to higher-grade coins like Proofs.

PROOF FIVE PENCE SET

The 1990 Boxed and Sealed Silver Proof Five Pence Two-Coin Set is a collectible item issued by the Royal Mint. Both coins are struck in sterling silver (.925 fineness). The set mintage was limited to only 35,000 sets, making it very collectable.

The set comprises the old "large 5p" which weighs 5.65 grams and has a diameter of 23.59 mm, and the new "Small 5p" weighs 3.25 grams and has a diameter of 18.00 mm.

The reverse of each coin features the Badge of Scotland, a thistle royally crowned, designed by Christopher Ironside. The set comes complete with a Royal Mint box and a certificate of authenticity.

The set is significant because it commemorates the introduction of the new, smaller five pence coin in 1990, and it includes the last of the original five pence coins and the first of the new size.

The 1983 Falkland Commemorative Coin and pack mark the 150th anniversary of the Falkland Islands. This special coin celebrates the rich history and significance of this remote archipelago in the South Atlantic. The message on the back of the laminated folder is from Sir Rex Hunt, governor of the Falkland Islands during the Falklands conflict.  This commemorative pack is significant because it was issued a year after the war ended on 14 June 1982. EU PRESIDENCY

Dual Dates: This coin bears dual dates, a departure from the usual single date. It features both 1992 and 1993, representing the significant period of the UK’s presidency and the establishment of the Single European Market.

Obverse Design: The obverse showcases the third portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf. This effigy was used on circulating coinage during her reign.

Reverse Design: The beautifully crafted reverse design, by sculptor Mary Milner Dickens, features a conference table seen from above. Around the table are arranged twelve chairs, symbolizing the Council of Ministers. The United Kingdom is prominently represented at the head of the table, and the table itself displays twelve stars—the symbols of the European Community—placed in the geographic positions of the capital cities of the twelve member countries. A network of lines connecting the stars signifies the links of trade and commerce within the Community.

Mintage: Only 35,000 of these silver proof 50p coins were issued. Usually sells for around £230 - I've included an image of recent eBay prices as a guide
