1965 - Elizabeth II Churchill Crown
The Churchill Crown was minted in 1965 to commemorate the life of Sir Winston Churchill, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Churchill, known for leading Britain to victory during World War Two, had a decorated career as an MP and an army officer. For the reverse a portrait of Churchill by the sculptor Oscar Nemon, derived from a profile bust that Nemon had completed in marble for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, was selected as the winning design.
This coin was the first ever UK coin to depict a figure other than a member of the Royal Family, making it unique.
